Dragon Age fans, you have yet another thing to get excited about: Bioware has announced that they are partnering with anime publisher FUNimation to produce an animated movie based on the Dragon Age universe. Production is already underway with a direct-to-DVD release expected for 2011.

Bioware’s Executive Producer Mark Darrah and Creative Director Mike Laidlaw, as well as FUNimation’s Fukunaga and Director of Original Entertainment Chris Moujaes will be producing the upcoming film.

“Anime is a great medium for us to continue the robust Dragon Age story,” said Mark Darrah, Executive Producer for the Dragon Age franchise. “Partnering with FUNimation ensures that we are delivering the exceptional quality and entertainment value that our Dragon Age fans expect.”

This will be the first release for FUNimation’s new department of “Original Entertainment,” which has more plans to create new animes based on other original IPs. FUNimation is the leading distributor of anime for North America, bringing us titles like Afro Samauri and Dragon Ball.

Unfortunately, not much else is known about the upcoming film as of right now, but knowing Bioware, I’m sure fans will have much more information as the release draws closer.
